**Longclaw the Owl** is a main character in Mobius Guardians. She is a Mobian Owl and the Guardian of the Master Emerald chosen by the Owl Clans of Angel Island. After the Master Emerald is stolen by Doctor Robotnik, she reluctantly forges an alliance with Knuckles the Echidna and his sister Onyx the Echidna and forms Team Guardian.

=====Appearance=====
Longclaw is a brown and cream colored mobian owl with cyan blue eyes and a grayish blue beak. Her head is adorned with two feathers of a slightly different shade of her normal body colors. She has two large wings on her back that match her normal body colors. Her hands and feet hold sharp talons of the same color as her beak. Her attire consists of a simple undershirt and skirt, covered over by thicker padding and topped off with a golden chest plate. She wears two gold bracers on both wrists over top of a pair of open fingered gloves. Her footwear is also open toed, with a cloth cover over the feet themselves held in place by a pair of brown sandals.

=====History=====

====Early Life====
Longclaw was born to one of the numerous Owl Clans that resided on Angel Island. As was common in their culture, there was no specific parent or guardian for the young owl chick. Rather the community as a whole would raise the children as one unit. She lived a carefree life, happy and energetic like all the other kids her age. They would often partake in games such as hide and seek and tag, something encouraged by their elders.

Unbeknownst to the young Longclaw and the others, this was secretly a test that the Owl Clan Elders used to determine which new owls would have the potential to take the place as the next chosen Guardian, who protected the Master Emerald in the name of their clan for generations. She herself would be discovered to have a strong connection to the Chaos Force when she displayed a keen ability to track her friends in one of their games, seeming to be able to follow their path when there was none to be found. The elder of her clan, Silverwind, would approach her afterwards and take her in as one of a select few who had also shown such ability as they began training to become Guardians.

Little did she know that this meant more than she realized. This marked the end of her childhood, unaware of the brutal training to come.

====Training====
Longclaw and the other prospects would be brought together a short time after they were chosen in a small, secluded training ground by their various Elders. It was there that they would meet the current Guardian named Swift Talon. He and the Elders would explain the purpose of bringing them here, which excited the group at first as they remained blissfully unaware of what was to come.

Their training would begin almost immediately, as they were quickly put into drills to hone their combat skills and their connection to the Chaos Force, which was essential for a Guardian. It was an intense ordeal, pitting children against one another in combat to see who would be the stronger, and to train the weaker to overcome the raw strength with strategy and skill.

Longclaw would begin to excel at combat, easily becoming the best of the group by a wide margin. But she began to notice something amiss as over the coming weeks, some of the other prospects began to be removed from the training. She had become close with many of them, and she came to realize that they were being pulled as they were not meeting the standards set for them. Slowly, more and more of the other trainees would be taken away. She began to hold back, trying to hold on to whatever friends she had left. But eventually, only she remained.

With the choice clear and the focus on here, her training only intensified from there. Day in and day out she was prepared both physically and mentally to fill the role set before her. She became conditioned to accept that this was a task she must carry out alone. Her strength, her skill, her knowledge alone had to be enough to claim victory. She could not show fear, signs of weakness. She could not show mercy, as her enemy would not do the same. Slowly the happy, bright and hopeful child she once was became cold and aggressive. Because that made the elders proud.

Before she knew it, years had passed as she was faced with her final test. To truly become a Guardian, she must face the judgement of the Master Emerald itself. It had to judge if she would be worthy. Stood before the great artifact, she reached out to it... and heard its voice. She had been deemed worthy, the choice had been made. She would be the next Guardian.

====Changing of the Guard====
Soon the time was upon her, the day she had dreamt of and prepared for as long as she could remember. All of her training had led to this moment. And yet, there was still much to do. With the passing of the torch, she would have to face her long hated enemy in one on one combat. The Echidna. It had been drilled into her how dangerous the Echidna Clans once were, and how they could still pose a threat to the world. So she took the initiative, and began to spy on the one who had become the new Guardian for the Echidna. His name... was Knuckles. And she couldn't be more disgusted.

From all appearances he did not take his role seriously in the slightest. So joyful and carefree, she'd even call him sloppy. The more she watched, the more she became convinced of these observations. But nonetheless she would not underestimate her opponent. She prepared herself for the coming battle, knowing it would take every ounce of power and skill she could muster.

And soon the day came. As the sun rose, she hid near the battleground as she waited for her opponent. And soon he came. She waited for the perfect moment to strike... and attacked, intending to catch her opponent off guard. To her surprise, however, he was ready for her. Despite the initial setback, a fierce battle began as the two Guardians gave it everything they had against one another.

As the battle reached its climax, something neither Guardian could predict would occur. A new adversary would appear, a blue spiked warrior who rushed with incredible speed. Despite their exhaustion, the two attempted to fight back against this new threat to no avail, being easily dispatched.

Soon the strange fighter vanished, and to her horror the Master Emerald with him. Believing this to have been some kind of Echidna trick, she confronted Knuckles but before either could figure out what had happened, the island they stood upon began to tremble as it fell from the sky, lacking the source of Chaos Energy that kept it floating above the ocean. In the last moments she can recall before the impact, she could swear she saw her foe trying to help her as she stumbled about. Then... everything went black.

When she awoke after the impact, she fled the battleground in a panic. No Guardian had ever lost the Master Emerald to an outside force, she had failed on an unimaginable scale. She cursed the Echidna for not taking his duty seriously, and trembled at the thought of returning to her people after such an immense failure. So she decided she had to get the Master Emerald back herself, not for the people of the island, but to redeem herself in the eyes of her elders. Without even so much as a second thought, she raced across the island following the flow of Chaos Energy, and took flight across the waters in pursuit of the missing gem.

=====Personality=====
As a young girl, Longclaw was happy and friendly with all those around her. She enjoyed being with others and just having light hearted fun. She was a kind and respectful girl who cared greatly for those around her.

After her training to be a Guardian, that demeanor had completely changed. She had become closed off and cold to outsiders, often showing little emotion aside from anger and frustration. She became very prideful when she was chosen as the next Guardian, wanting to prove herself truly worthy of being one. This, however, was a double edged sword. She was terrified at the prospect of failure, feeling that it would take away the only thing she had left to hold on to. She is very insecure about her position because of this, and will do anything to ensure she does not lose it. One has to wonder if there is any real shred of her former self even still in that shell.

=====Powers and Abilities=====
Longclaw is capable of unaided flight because of the natural wings sported on her back. Because of this, she is very nimble and agile and uses this to her advantage in combat. What she lacks in raw power she makes up for in speed and maneuverability. That isn't to say she is defenseless, though. Her razor sharp talons on her hands and feet can strike devastating blows if she is allowed to get close.

Even before her training as a Guardian, she had a strong connection to the Chaos Force. She was able to use it to quickly find her friends in a game of hide and seek. Her training helped to hone that skill, being able to follow the flow of Chaos Energy and even connect with the Master Emerald. It's possible she can even harness the chaotic energy, though she has yet to attempt so.

=====Relationships=====

====Knuckles the Echidna====
Knuckles, being the Guardian of the Master Emerald chosen by the Echidna Clans, is meant to be her ultimate enemy. Despite having had no interactions with the Echidna Clans herself prior, she developed a hatred for their kind during her training as she learned the history of them and how they attempted to conquer all of the known lands back in ancient times. As such, she sees him as no different than his ancestors. She dislikes how he did not seem to take his role seriously, how he was so casual during their battle and seemed to feel nothing for the stakes involved.

That being said, she did still note how he attempted to help her when Angel Island plummeted into the ocean. That act confused her greatly, and likely attributed to her panic in the aftermath. How this will affect their relationship going forward remains to be seen.

====Owl Clans====
Longclaw is loyal to the Owl Clans as they are her people. She holds the Elders in high regards, as they were the ones who entrusted her with this position. Because of this, she can't dare face them after her failure unless she recovers the Master Emerald herself.

=====Trivia=====
  * Longclaw was adapted from the character of the same name that first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) as the Adoptive Mother of Sonic and the Guardian of the Master Emerald. The concept of her status as a Guardian was adapted, but her relationship with Sonic was dropped and both her age and personality were altered to better match with the new Knuckles.
  * Unlike most bird mobians in canon, Longclaw and the other Owls have natural wings that can be used for self sustained flight. This is true for many other characters and species in the Guardians Universe.
